An early Twentieth century Japanese lacquered postcard/photograph album, the front cover with shibayama bone inlay of a geisha with attendants. Inside are cloth covered leaves, hand painted with landscape scenes, birds and flowers. The album is fully stocked with 72 WW1 embroidered silk postcards sent by British soldiers from the western front to loved ones at home. These include envelope type with greeting card inserts, regimental crests and two particularly rare cards showing a French 75mm field gun in action and another with a shell being fired. Many show the flags of the Allies with colours well preserved, including, in some cases, USA and Japan.
