Ford Thunderbird 1955 - Fresh out of storage is this "Iconic" American automobile, a first year of production 1955 Ford "T-Bird" Coupe. Still in its original Raven Black exterior over a black and white two tone exterior and with the rare full size "Continental pack", wire wheels not hub caps, electric front seats and electric windows. Appearing to of had a respray in the original colour at some point in its life that while not being factory finish and with the odd reaction mark here and there, will polish nicely, has no damage and is rust free. Underneath the car is excellent, again no rust just discolouring from age on some components (it is over 60 years old) and obviously benefited from being stored on a concrete floor. All the bright work is present but has signs of age but looking to be all original. It comes with the soft top and the optional and very sought after hard top, the finish on which has suffered from being stored under a cover that caused micro blistering to the paint
Interior wise things are very good, still with its correct seat covers etc . The dash is very tidy with no cracks to the dash pad or missing instrumentation, the original radio is still in place, even the cigarette lighter is there. The instrument binnacle lens does have some degrading of the plastic but is still clear to use. Electric windows etc all work and with very little effort will clean very easily.
After being stood for so long we have been asked to recommission the car so as of yet, not attempted to start the engine ( it arrived with us this afternoon 27/10/16) but we will report of the mechanical side of things once in a position to do so. The vendor does report that prior to him storing the car, it drove very well.
These instantly recognised first generation Thunderbirds were only made for two years, total production number is quoted as 16,155 in 1955, so not exactly a high volume car when new and now very rare and sought after. Prices are up year on year and it is hard to find such a solid and original car. No its not perfect but it is an honest car just waiting to be improved by its next owner or just enjoyed exactly as it is.
UPDATE: Now after having a rebuilt starter motor and replacement power lead from the starter to the starter solenoid, which had deteriorated through heat and age to the point it no longer passed current, it runs. Engine is very quiet and shows no sign of smoke or over heating, ticks over smoothly and revs cleanly. Body has now recieved a hand polish and although now shines very nicely and is definately fine for use, has reaction in places (worse on the hard top) and some touch ups. Interior is excellent with all dials etc working. A real peach in the makeing with attention to the paint could soon be a show winner. New Pics show it in the workshop.
