Mercury Parklane Convertible "410 Marauder" 1966 - Wow!! When we first saw this car was as it was slowly but expertly "Navigated" from its winter hiding place, a faceless council garage in a line of faceless garages. It was not just its size that struck you, it is over 18 feet long mind you, but how stunning the paintwork is and how incredibly smooth and quiet its engine was. It really did stop all conversation and you realised what the vendor meant when he had said "Its mint" on the phone earlier that day!
With only 2584 examples of this car built for this year, which was also the only year the 6722cc "Marauder 410 V8" was fitted, this was always a rare car. This one is now thought to be the only one here in the UK with only one other thought to exist in Europe. Having been fully restored to beyond show condition prior to being exported from the US the Caspian Blue exterior is faultless in finish and quality. Sub Note: The Chairman of the "Mercury Owners Club" flew to Seattle in the States to inspect the car prior to its purchase.
Once inside its more of the same, everything correct, working and in superb order. Lift the "hood" and you realise that massive V8 is still running its just so smooth you had not realised! I quote "You can stand a glass of champagne on it and it will not even make it fizz!!" Not that you would want to risk spilling it as its all rather clean under there.
I think you get the general idea. If you are looking for an American convertible from the 60s and you want one of the best. This one year only "matching numbers" car is it. Offered with what on todays market is a very sensible reserve. A truly one off chance to own a beautiful car that has also been featured in various magazines.
