Volkswagen Beetle 1303S (Karmann) Convertible 1978 Having spent some time as part of a very varied private car collection and now only available due to a change in direction of that collection is this 1978 VW Beetle Karmann Convertible in absolutely fabulous condition! In its extensive file amongst all the bills and old MOTs are receipts for when its restoration took place back in 1994 just the new parts and mechanicals came to 2533 and dont forget that is in 1994! Then you have to add on the cost of what judging by how good it still is today must have been a very expensive respray and you can begin to understand why the car is in such good condition. The mileage when this work took place would have been short of 69823 as the MOTs that are with it show that figure in 1996 since then only a further 10000 miles have been covered till now less than 500 miles a year on average! As you can see the body work in its lovely deep burnt orange metallic has that deep shine only accomplished by years of being treated with only the best products. I dare say if you look long and hard there are imperfections somewhere. There is no rust. The white soft top is in very good condition and comes with its colour matched tonneau cover. All the exterior bright work is excellent. Interior is lovely seats carpets etc are all very clean. The expensive wooden rimmed steering wheel is complimented by a wooden gear knob and window winder fittings. While under the bonnet is the correct matching spare wheel with the original pressure bottle nice black carpet and inner wings as shiny as on the outside. Under the bonnet cover the 1600CC engine is clean and oil tight with all the appropriate air ducting and covers in place. At some point what looks to be extra sound proofing has been fitted this has dropped away in places a very minor irritant but worth a mention and an easy fix. So with a fresh MOT and in this condition what is there to think about? Prices of these later 1303 based convertibles are strong people now realise that the later cars with the better suspension and brakes do actually drive better and with the 1600cc motor are happy cruising at motorway speeds. So all of the iconic looks that a Beetle gives but a car more at home on todays roads.
