Buick Electra 225 455 Big Block 1970 Whether you like your cars from over the pond or not you cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer size of this 1970 Buick Electra 225. The 225 referring to the total length of these cars in inches yep that is a shade under 19 feet long!
This particular car is a true survivor having had one owner from new in the States who obviously looked after it. Since being imported the vendor has undertaken a mechanical refresh but has left the car original otherwise. He says that the car is 100% rot free and has supplied pictures from underneath to prove this.
The paintwork has at some point in its life been repainted as he says Its 10 out of 10 for an American job but he would say 7 out of 10 for us here in the UK. But very straight and presentable all the same.
Interior does need some slight attention where some of the pressed seams in the vinyl of the seats have parted but it is all there in good condition and useable as is.
Under the hood is where this car rings the bell. 1970 was the first year that Buick fitted their monster 455 cubic inch (7.5 litre apx) motor replacing the smaller 430 (7 litre apx) unit but it was the only year it was run as a high compression full power engine quoted at 370hp as by 1971 they had to drop the compression to make way for the first of the emission regulations. This monster size car is fast no getting away from that with the back tyres complaining easily if you are a bit heavy footed! The auto box is designed to cope with all this power and weight and changes smoothly no problem at all.
The brakes you will be glad to know have been overhauled so the big old finned drum brakes it is equipped do stop it well. Electrics on the whole work and as the car will have a fresh MOT will be up to that standard there are bound to be a couple of gremlins here and there but thats part of owning an old American car.
With the exchange rate the way it is today plus the cost of shipping a car this size you would not be able to buy and ship a car like this over from the States for the money this one is on sale at. Even if you did you are never sure of exactly what it will be like when it arrives. This one is here with all the hard work done is solid very rare with this engine and can be used as it stands for this years season of shows.
