Armstrong Siddeley 12-6 Fixed Head "Doctors Coupe" 1934 - Here at ECCA we have already established a reputation for offering cars that are rare and have not been offered for sale for a long time. This 1934 Armstrong 12/6 Fixed head "Doctors Coupe" complete with "Dicky seat" is a perfect example of this.
Found by the vendor in 1980, abandoned in a derelict state from long term storage in an East London garage. Owned by him since (yes since 1980) and fully restored with no expense spared. This Maltby bodied car is one of only 3 ever made. Out of the other two, one is lost and the other is rumoured but not confirmed, to be in Australia. What state it is in or even its existence today, who knows (confirmed in the cars history file by way of a letter from the Armstrong Owners Club) so its feasible this could be the last car of its kind in the world!
We are proud that its owner, who is now 80 and cannot cherish it like he would want anymore, has chosen our Auction house to market the car for him. When he says restored, he means a complete body off restoration with nothing not receiving attention. There are bills for 5765 (Engine Build) and 2193 (Interior) from 1990 alone, multiply those figures to prices charged today! While apart its all-aluminium body was treated for corrosion and its Ash frame was against wood worm. In its file are photos showing this and dating right back to the day it was first discovered.
Even though the pictures are of poor quality (sorry but the vendor has no computer so these are copies of "real" photos, remember them?) you can see the quality of this car. Bodywork, which is more cream than the white it appears in the pictures, is still very good with very few imperfections, just one small crack in the paint on the l/h windscreen side support worth mentioning. Mechanically everything is good but as the engine has not been started for two years or so, since it featured in an episode of the TV show "Posh Porn" where they drove it for over an hour (even they offered 10K for it so we know its worth a lot more) it will now need a degree of recommissioning prior to starting and driving. In that time it has been stood on its own jacks so no weight on the tyres etc.
Interior and the rear Dicky seat are lovely and in excellent condition still, a testament to the quality of the restoration work carried out. Tyres and wheels are all very good too. Offered for sale with a very realistic reserve and coming with its original buff log book, a letter from DVLA stating that due to its "historic importance" they were happy to re-issue the cars original number plate, the letter of Authenticity from the Armstrong club and a stack of pictures showing various stages of its restoration. What more could you ask for?
