Lot number: 228
Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTi Convertible (project) When is an 80s HotHatch not a HotHatch? When it has no roof so no hatch! But that aside the convertible version of Volkswagens iconic Mk1 Golf GTi has the best of its attributes a lively engine taught chassis and legendary reliability but when the sun comes out open top motoring as well.
This nice example has 166K on the clock and a small history file showing lots of work being carried out over the years. Today it drives very well with no know mechanical problems. The engine pulls well through the gears clutch action is smooth and the general mechanics are all good.
Interior is nice with just slight signs of usage but very clean and tidy. Although the convertible roof itself is in very good condition there is damage to the inner head lining that will need to be repaired or replaced.
Unfortunately no matter how well mechanically a car from the 80s is looked after you cannot stop our weather from trying to biodegrade it! This Golf while still very presentable is just beginning to show the signs with bubbles of corrosion under the paint no holes but will need to be addressed sooner than later if you want to keep the car looking good.
A good project for someone then with a reserve to match. There will be a new placed MOT on the car prior to the auction that way you can be assured of its mechanical prowess. So get the roof down and enjoy this summer and make the cosmetics your winter project.
