A rare 17th century Charles II silver paten, the circular dish with reeded edge and recessed centre, supported by spreading foot and short column. The top with four prominent and clear hallmarks for London, 1680 and makers mark LS beneath a crown for Leonard Sutton, the base also with clear makers mark. Leonard was apprenticed in 1668 to his brother John (who later became the Touch Warden of the Goldsmiths' Company), and made free in 1675. In 1682 he was living in the parish of St Mary Woolnoth in the City of London. Diameter: 16.5cm approximately
