Lot number: 626
An 18th Century silver jug, originally a tankard, with later alterations and decoration. Because the conversion from a tankard was done without the consent of the assay office the London assay office struck through the original 18th Century hallmarks and re hallmarked it. The jug is adorned with a clan Turnbull crest, head of a bull, and the the motto 'Fortune favours the bold'. The clan Turnbull is most famous for their chieftain Wiiliam De Rule who saved the life of King Robert the Bruce in 1320. Approx height 24 cm.
