An interesting pewter and enamel sign This Club house opened by HRH The Dutchess of York 1929 - relates to the visit of H.R.H. The Duchess of York (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) to Southend on November 12th 1929, primarily to lay the foundation stone for the new Southend and District General Hospital on Prittlewell Chase.
